The "Brute" Milling and PCB Machine

Tighter and Faster
With  increased accuracy and stiffness, The "Brute" can mill faster and still produce accurate parts. This was acheived by beefing up the machine and using Delrin plastic for all the sliding parts. This requires more tools, skill and patience  from the builder.  The Brute is a replacement for the NCF2002 and PCBMill.  The overall accuracy is still around .003.  Remember we always have a slight amount of  play in the Dremel motor tool that we have to live with.  I am now accurately  milling circuit boards at 6 inches per minute.  I have my Dremel set on #3 during the milling process and that does a great job at 6 inches per minute. The quality of the milled boards almost equals that of a 5,000 machine!!!
The Brute has a top speed of 12 inches per minute using 5 or 6 volt stepping motors. You can raise the voltage of  the motors to 30 volts and along with some large power resistors obtain speeds up to 20 inches per minute!  The reason this mill only does 12 inches per minute is because I am using an old computer supply. With 12 volts and some 8ohm resistors the 5 volt motors give me 12" per minute.
This mill will cut PVC, Plexiglas, Wax and wood  at speed up to 12 inches per minute. With 1/16" milling bits it can also mill Brass and Aluminum but at much lower speeds. The machine can support a 6" by 6" Deck.  The actual milling area is 5-3/4" by 5-3/4".  The Z axis has a 2-1/2" range.  This machine moves just like a large CNC milling machine!  This machime is built using Aluminum channel, PVC, Delrin and other easy to obtain materials. Working with Delrin requires lots of skill and tools that you may not have!  I make most of the parts with simple tools.  I use a scrollsaw, drill press, belt sander and hand tools to make all of the parts.

Several people have completed my designs. (click on Pics below) I have now lowered  the price of my "Brute" plans.  The plans now come with  "How to Mill PCBoards".  The  NCF2002 and the PCBMill have been eliminated by the "Brute".  I have converted my own NCF2002 and PCBMills to the "Brute" design.

Also note: These are step by step plans! There is a drawing for each part and several sub assembly drawings.  This is not a planset that has only a few engineering drawings and a parts list! There is no parts list! You build as you go! Most of the parts you make out of PVC or Plexi. The people who finished the Brute used surplus materials they found in their area. There is a diagram for a motor controller included. This was ment for diehard builders.  I strongly suggest you buy a motor system after you finish the machine. Alot of people buy the motors and controller first, they see the motors spin and then they lose interest!

If you would like a copy of my "Brute" booklet that also includes "How to Mill PCBoards" please send  $36 which includes free shipping and handling.  I only sell and ship these plans to the US and Canada.
